Digital is the Green Print Solution

There are a number of reasons why choosing digital may be a perfect fit for you next print project, and if you are thinking Green, you can add that to the list as well. Digital has always been the best solution for low cost, quick turn projects. With new Emulsion Aggregation (EA) toners and post-consumer recycled stocks, digital is now THE Green option.

EA toners are a type of dry toner that have environmentally preferable characteristics. Key advantages include the ability to control the size, shape and structure of the particles, leading to improved print quality, less toner usage, less toner waste and lower energy consumption. This new technology uses 25Ð35% less energy in production. Combine that with 40Ð50% less toner needed during printing, and EA technology offers an estimated 60-70% percent energy savings per page. Unlike petroleum and soy-based inks, EA toners are non-toxic, and produce almost no volatile organic emission. They are safe enough for operation in almost any environment. Additionally, the manufacturing process for EA toners is water-based and environmentally friendly. I think you can see why digital printing is the Green choice.

Size matters if you really want to be Green. Consider this... How many times have you produced a large number of printed collateral, choosing the size of the run not by how many you actually need, but by the best price break, only to toss half of them away because the material is dated or needs to be changed? Factor in the cost of the scrap and the environmental impact of the wasted resources, and the actual costs begin to skyrocket.

The next time you have a print project, you can choose to run your project in manageable bites. Digital allows you to print on-demand. Only produce the number of pieces you actually need at that moment, and reorder as required. Digital printing turn times are typically only a day or two. This will virtually eliminate scrap and outdated print material, and keep your costs in-line — not to mention that environmental benefit.
